Cattle transport causes clashes, assaults - 3 arrested

Mangalore, Aug 24, 2014:  A group of persons reportedly belonging to a local saffronoutfit assaulted 2 men claiming they were illegally transporting cattle. The incident occurred on Saturday August 23 night at Pumpwell.

Abdul Sameer and Shoukath Ali Permannur were reportedly transporting cattle from Uppinangady towards Mangalore in a vehicle bearing Kerala number plate.

On receiving information, a group of persons gave chase to the vehicle and stopped it.  It is said people jumped on to the vehicle and pulled the driver out, with the result that the vehicle hit a bike and came to a stop.  Sameer and Shoukath were forced out of the vehicle and allegedly dragged and beaten up by the group.  The police arrived at the spot and brought the situation under control.

Three persons, identified as Prakash, Manoj and Shivaraj, were arrested. Sameer who was seriously injured was admitted to a private hospital while Shoukath was taken to Wenlock hospital.

Kankanady police registered a case and further investigations are underway.
