Cattle trader’s death: One more arrested

Udupi, June 06, 2018: The Udupi district police have arrested one more person in connection with the death of cattle trader Hussainabba here on Tuesday. The police gave the name of the person arrested as Jaya, 37.

 

cattle trader.jpHussainabba, a cattle trader, was transporting cattle in a multi-utility vehicle at Shenarbettu near Perdoor in Udupi district on May 30, when he was waylaid and allegedly assaulted by Bajrang Dal activists. He was later found dead.

In a complaint by Mohammed Ismail, Hussainabba’s brother with the Hiriyadka police, Mr. Ismail alleged that Hussainabba was attacked and died in the presence of the police, and that the police with the help of Bajrang Dal activists shifted his body to make it appear as an unnatural death.

Superintendent of Police Laxman Nimbargi said here on Tuesday that Jaya was arrested in Jokkatte near Surathkal.

According to the police, Jaya was one of the persons with the cattle trader, Hussainabba, who had escaped from the vehicle. With Jaya’s arrest, the total number of persons arrested in the case had gone up to 11.

Meanwhile, the police produced the four accused in the case, Suresh Mendon alias Suri, Prasad Kondady, Umesh Shetty, and Ratan, before the court here on Tuesday. The court remanded them in judicial custody till June 15.

Three policemen were arrested in the case on June 2, while three activists of the Bajrang Dal were arrested on June 3.
