Cash stolen from Canara Bank ATM in Balmatta

Mangalore, May 6, 2012: Thieves broke into a Canara Bank ATM in Balmatta, near the HP petrol bunk, on the night of May 5 Saturday.

Although there are two ATMs near the petrol bunk—a Canara Bank ATM and a Dhanalakshmi Bank ATM—thieves broke into only the Canara Bank ATM, not the Dhanalakshmi Bank ATM.

 

The petrol bunk was open till 11:30 p.m. on the night of Saturday and the security guards were around till midnight.

When the morning security guard arrived at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, he found that the Canara Bank ATM was damaged.

It is yet to be ascertained how much money has been stolen.

The Kadri police, under the leadership of Venkatesh Prasanna, the city crime branch inspector, are investigating the ATM theft.

Shrikantamurthy, the AGM of Canara Bank, Collector’s Gate branch, said that the ATM is being managed by Canara Bank Computer Services. He said that their CCTV footage might reveal the identity of the thieves.
