CREST anniversary celebrations evoke patriotic feelings

Mangalore, July 27: The Kargil Vijaya Divas, Navaras Utsav, and CREST anniversary celebrations organized by the Centre for Integrated Learning (CIL) at Don Bosco Hall on July 26, Tuesday comprised cultural shows, inauguration of an environment friendly bag project, and tributes to war heroes.

Kargil Vijay Divas


The Kargil Vijay Divas was held in commemoration of the 12th anniversary of India’s victory over Pakistan. On this occasion, four war veterans Col. N. S. Bhandary, Wing Commander D. R. Belle of the Indian Air Force, Retired Brigadier I. N. Rai, and Lt. Commander G. P. Mascarenhas who served in the armed forces during the Indo Pak war of 1971 were honoured. 


HIV positive children, inmates of orphanages, and students from blind schools honoured war veterans with roses and a citation. Video presentations of the Kargil war and the soldiers who sacrificed their lives were show on the occasion. 


CREST anniversary


Creating Resource to Empower Society Today (CREST), the youth wing of the CIL, celebrated its first anniversary by launching its environment friendly bag project. Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash, the commissioner of the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC), launched this project, in which the members of CREST intend to collect old clothes from families and hand them over to the inmates of the Mobility Centre for the Blind, who will use these clothes to produce grocery bags, which will be sold in market places. 


Navaras Utsav


The Navaras Utsav was organized the Navaras Hobby Dancers’ Club, the cultural wing of CIL, which created a common platform for people from all walks of life to showcase their talents under the theme “colours of India.” HIV positive children, inmates of the Bagini Samaj, students of Saanidhya Special School, Roman and Catherine Lobo School for the Blind, homemakers, professionals, toddlers, students of primary schools, high schools, and colleges, and many others presented shows to illustrate the rich culture of India. 


Sachitha Nandagopal, the CIL executive director, directed this event, and Adarsh Gokhale was the MC.
