CPM activist, RSS member hacked to death within hours near Kannur

Kasargod, May 08, 2018:  An activist of the CPI(M) and a RSS member were brutally hacked to death in a matter of a few hours near Kannur on May 7, Monday night.


A CPI(M) worker named Babu (45) was first brutally killed at Pallur Nalattara in the Mahe district of Puducherry union territory by a gang of armed assailants which arrived by a vehicle. He was also a former member of local municipal council.  The Mahe district is adjacent to the  politically sensitive Kannur district of Kerala.

 In  a suspected retaliation to this murder, a BJP worker and autorickshaw driver named Shanoj (40) was eliminated within the next few hours.

Shanoj who was on way home was chased and brutally attacked. Though he was rushed to the hospital at Kozhikhode his life could not be saved.

Though the exact reason  for the murders is not known, both the CPM and the BJP are hurling allegations and counter allegations.  The two parties have given a call for a hartal in Kannur and Mahe.

The murders have triggered tension in the area.
