Udupi, July 11,2017: The Udupi City Municipality Corporation (CMC) has built houses at Kodankuru for the families of Sudugadu Siddhas and Budgajangama communities who belong to scheduled tribes.
After inaugurating the housing complex, District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj said that the families should educate children and also maintain clean and hygienic conditions in the area.
Education will help to empower the children to lead an independent life, he said and also directed officials to provide BPL cards to the inhabitants.
Udupi DC Priyanka Mary Francis said an anganwadi will start in the area soon.
A proposal to lay a road in the area at a cost of Rs 50 lakh has been mooted. Land has been purchased at a cost of Rs 7 lakh for the purpose, she added.
Most families here survive by either singing songs, playing music on streets or by predicting astrology. The houses have water and electricity connections. The families, originally hailing from Uttar Kannada district, migrated to Udupi at least 20 years ago.
