Kundapur, May 3, 2015: Senior Congress leader and former union minister Oscar Fernandes has informed that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will inaugurate the Varahi Irrigation Project on May 4, Monday at 10.30 am. He said the first phase of Varahi Project would irrigate 2500 hectares of farm land.
Speaking to reporters here, Oscar said the inaugural of the project which took several years for completion is a dream come true. He also added that preparations are underway for the inaugural which is expected to be attended by nearly 25000 people. The formal ceremony will be held at Siddapur High School grounds, he informed.
Oscar also cited various reasons that led to the delay in the completion of the project. He said the second phase of Varahi is likely to be completed by 2016.
Gopal Poojary, MLA who also spoke on the occasion, said the Chief Minister will hand over various government facilities to nearly 5000 farmers on the occasion.
K Pratapchandra Shetty, MLC and Udupi District Raitha Sangha President, Jayasheela Shetty, Brahmavar Sugar Factory President, Nataraj, Chief Engineer, S Sanjeeva Shetty, Congress leader and others were present.
