CM announces Rs. 1 lakh compensation for train accident victims

Mangalore, May 22, 2012 : D. V. Sadananda Gowda, chief minister of Karnataka, announced a compensation of Rs. 1 lakh for those who died when the Hubli to Bangalore Hampi Express rammed into a stationary goods train near Penukonda in Anantapur in Andhra Pradesh.

sada1Interacting with reporters in the office of the district BJP, he said that each injured passenger will receive compensation of Rs. 25,000 from the state government.

Speaking on the Naxal problem in Karnataka, the CM said that the BJP Yuva Morcha has suggested several steps that can be taken to curb the Naxal menace and the government will carefully consider each of these suggestions before putting it to practice.

The CM also said that the state government will appoint a committee to study the basic facilities and requirements of people in Naxal-infested areas, including job opportunities for the youth.

The government will also conduct an inquiry into the allegations against Vittala Malekudiya, a student of journalism and mass communication in Mangalore University.

He, however, refused to comment on questions about B. S. Yeddyurappa, the former CM of Karnataka.

The CM will take part in the youth conference organized by the BJP Yuva Morcha later today.
