CCTVs to be installed in all MCC offices : Mayor

Mangalore, Oct 19, 2011: Mayor Praveen announced at a press conference held on the premises of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) that CCTVs will be installed in all the offices of MCC to ensure transparency in all the day-to-day activities of the civic body. 


In response to a journalist’s query regarding the installation of CCTVs in the mayor’s office, he said that CCTVs will not be installed in the mayor’s office. In response to another query as to whether transparency is not required for the mayor, he said, “No.”

Regarding the construction of storm water drains and footpaths near concretized roads, he said that this project will be completed within 6 months at an estimated cost of Rs. 25 crore. Mentioning that each ward has received Rs. 25 lakh for road repair, he said that the KPT to Mangalore Airport stretch has been renamed as Sir M. Visveshwarayya Road and will be soon raised to international standards. 


The mayor also said that the foundation stone for the new inter-district bus station at Pumpwell will be laid soon and the bus station will be constructed at the cost of Rs. 1 crore. 


He also said that tenders have been called for the solid waste management project in the city and that the tender procedures are in the final stage. A comprehensive solid waste management project will be soon launched, he added. 


He further said that 10 ponds coming under the jurisdiction of the civic body will be developed at the cost of Rs. 224.5 lakh. 


The mayor also distributed cash prizes among young achievers. Anil, Royston, and Dhanya received cash prizes in recognition of their achievements at the Special Olympics. 


Dr. K. Harish Kumar, the MCC commissioner, and Geeta Nayak, the deputy mayor, were also present.
