Businessman accuses Mangalore United owner of cheating

Mangalore Today News Network

Moideen BavaBangalore, September 17: Bangalore Mirror, a Bangalore-based daily, has reported that a Mangalore-based businessman accused Moideen Bawa, the owner of KPL team Mangalore United, of cheating him of Rs. 1.10 crore. The businessman Suvarna filed a case in the Bangalore court, which directed the Cubbon Park police to investigate the issue.

Suvarna alleged that Bawa had led him to believe that he would be one of the partners in Mangalore United and that he had given Bawa Rs. 20 lakh in the form of a DD from his Axis Bank account to help him during the bidding last year. Suvarna further alleged that Bawa had taken the bidding application in the name of his company Fiza Developers and kept making lame excuses whenever asked about the partnership deed. He further said that he had given Rs. 50 lakh to Fiza Developers from his Axis Bank account and Rs. 40 lakh from his Bank of Patiala account.

Suvarna said that he got acquainted with Bawa through the mining business and had nothing to do with Fiza Developers. He accused Bawa of avoiding him once he began getting the KPL profits. Bawa gave excuses of being busy for the first six months and stopped receiving calls three months ago, he alleged. He also added that he had invested white money and can prove it.

Further explaining the matter, Suvarna said that Bawa had invited him to be a sponsor this year, but that he had no intention of sponsoring the team when he had nothing to profit by it. He accused the Mangalore police of refusing to accept his complaint, owing to which he decided to file a case in the magistrate court of Bangalore.

In response to reporters’ queries regarding the allegation, Bawa said that Santhosh Suvarna is not a Mangalore United partner, but a co-sponsor and had given money as a co-sponsor. He also said that he had maintained all the required documents and has nothing to hide.
