Buses, autos back on city roads on 2nd day of general strike

Mangalore, Feb 21, 2013: Mangalore which observed a near total bundh in support of the two-day long general strike called by the trade unions on February 20, Wednesday, returned to normalcy on February 21, the second day of the strike.

Buses and autorickshaws plied as usual on the city roads. Even schools and colleges functioned normally. However, some hotels remained closed as its employees were affiliated to some trade unions.

 

But the trade and industry sector is not happy with the strike call. The industry has suffered huge losses due to the bundh, say Kanara chamber of Commerce and Industry President Mohammad Amen and Vice President Nigam Vasani

Meanwhile, official sources in the KSRTC also reveal that the losses due to Wednesday’s bundh run upto Rs 35 lakhs for the corporation. However, KSRTC buses  have resumed services on Thursday.

Kudpi Jagadish Shenoy, President of the Hoteliers’ Association meanwhile states that though the owners are not in support of the strike, the hotels are forced to shut down as employees are part of the strike.
