Brahma Kalashabhisheka of historic Kadri Manjunatha Temple from May 2 to 11

Mangaluru, April 28, 2019: The Brahma Kalashabhisheka, the Maha Danda Rudrabhisheka, and the Maha Rudra Yaga, being conducted once in 12 years for Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple in the city, will be held from May 2 to May 11 this time.

Brahma Kalashotsava Samiti president A.J. Shetty told reporters here on Saturday that last time the rituals were conducted in 2006 in the presence of Sri Sri Raja Sandhyanatha, head of the Kadri Jogi (Yogishwar) Mutt.

Similar rituals will be conducted this year too in the presence of the present seer of Kadri Jogi Mutt, Sri Sri Raja Nirmalnatha, under the guidance of the main priest of the temple, Derebail Vittaldasa Tantri, Mr. Shetty said. Different religous rituals and cultural programmes will be conducted during the Brahmakalashotsava celebrations.

Ahead of the celebrations, the temple managing committee had undertaken several development works on the premises, including an outer peripheral wall for Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple; construction of hall of shani puja and satyanarayana puja; granite flooring inside the Manjunatha temple, and the main mantapa for the temple, Mr. Shetty said.

Publicity committee in-charge Pradeep Kumar Kalkura said the celerations will start with religiouis rituals, namely, torana mahurta, ugrana mahurta, punyaha, rakshoghna homa etc., on May 2.

The Kadri seer and Sri Gurudevananda Swami of Sri Kshetra Odiyur will be present during the religous meeting from 6 p.m.

Cultural programmes, including Bharatanatyam, Nagaswara recital, and Yakshagana will be performed from 4 p.m.

There will be similar religious and cultural programmes till May 11 to mark the celebrations. The kalashabhisheka will commence from 7 a.m. on May 9 followed by the Brahma Kalashabhisheka at 9.35 a.m. The Maha Rathotsava will be held at 7 p.m. the same day.

A host of religious leaders, including Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Udupi Pejawar Mutt, Jithakamananda of Mangaluru Ramakrishna Mutt, Yogananda Saraswathi Swami of Kondevur Mutt, Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Udupi Kaniyur Mutt, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swami of Pejawar Mutt, Charukeerthi Bhattaraka Pandithacharyavarya Swami of Moodbidri Jain Mutt, Dharmapalanatha Swami of Adichunchanagiri branch Mutt, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari D. Veerendra Heggade, Vidyaprasanna Tirtha Swami of Subrahmanya Mutt, Keshavananda Bharathi Swami of Edaneer Mutt, will attend the celebrations on different days.

D. Vedavyasa Kamath, Mangaluru South MLA, is the honorary president of the celebration committee, Mr. Kalkura added.
