Bantwal, December 26, 2011:Four students of Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), who had been on a picnic to River Nethravathi near Boliar in Bantwal, drowned on Dec 25 Sunday.

The deceased are Safwan and Subhan of Kannur, Minaz of Mallappuram, and Shifan of Kasargod. Masroof of Calicut, however, was rescued just in time and rushed to a hospital.

Sources say that 11 students of BIT, which is located just 5kms from Mangalore University in Konaje, had gone on a picnic to River Nethravathi on Sunday.

All of them got into the water for a swim, shortly after which five of them drowned. One of them was rescued.

The bodies of the four engineering students, who drowned in River Nethravathi on the evening of Dec 25 Sunday, have been retrieved.

The deceased are Shifas of Kasargod, Safwan and Subhan of Kannur, and Rinaz of Mallapuram. They were part of a group of students from Bearys Institute of Technology (BIT), who had gone on a picnic to River Nethravathi.

 


Their bodies were retrieved on Dec 26 Monday following an intense search by a team of local swimmers.

The bodies have been taken to Wenlock Hospital for post mortem, after which they will be handed over to their respective family members.
