Bishop requests faithful to pray and fast for 3 weeks

Mangalore, Mar 18: Rev. Dr. Aloysius D’Souza, the Bishop of Mangalore Diocese, has invited the faithful to observe 3 weeks of fasting and prayer at Kodialbail Chapel in Mangalore. A number of institutions and parishes will participate in this event, which will conclude on March 30.

The method of fasting and prayer prescribed by the bishop is the one adopted by Daniel in the Book of Daniel. During his captivity in Babylon, Daniel and his 3 friends refused to eat sweets and choice meats and accepted only water and vegetables. Later, he began another partial fast to grieve over the plight of Israel. He took no sweets, wine, or meat for 3 weeks, at the end of which his prayers were answered.

The Bishop has requested the faithful to pray for divine grace and unity among all Christians, for peace and harmony in all families and communities, and for the development of spirituality among the youth.
