Mangaluru, Mar 08, 2018: Bhasker Moily has been elected as the new Mayor of Mangaluru on March 8, Thursday. Mohammad Kunjathbail has been elected as the Deputy Mayor.
At the election held at the Mangaluru City Corporation meeting hall, Bhasker Moily secured 37 votes as against the 19 votes secured by BJP candidate Surendra. As many as 5 corporators remained neutral.
Mohammad Kunjathbail too secured 37 votes. BJP’s candidate Meera Karkera managed to garner 19 votes. Even in this case, five corporators chose to remain neutral.
Mysuru Regional Commissioner Shivayogi C Kalasa was the Election Officer. Additional DC Kumar, MCC Commissioner Mohammad Nazeer were also present .
Earlier Bhasker Moily’s name was finalised at a meeting of local MLAs and MLC of the party held under the leadership of DK District in-charge Minister B Ramanatha Rai on Thursday morning. Even outgoing Mayor Kavitha Sanil had attended the meeting.
