Mangaluru, Oct 04, 2016: Eminent puppet artist Bhaskar Kogga Kamath from Uppina Kudru and social worker Olinda Pereira have been selected to receive the Basti Vaman Shenoy Samaj Seva Awards instituted by World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru for 2016.
They will receive Rs 1 lakh each, a shawl, citation at a function to be held at Mangaluru at dates to be announced shortly. T V Mohandas Pai, chairman, Manipal Global Education has instituted these awards.
Bhaskar Kogga Kamath who has taken age old "Yakshagana Gombeyata" (Puppet Show) worldwide and has got appreciation from leaders of many countries has been selected for Basti Vaman Shenoy Samaj Seva Award 2016. He is known for his unique trial performance of yoga by puppets, displaying a puppet of Hanumantha that grows to a full size, innovated new Indian puppet of new technique in movements of puppets by using rods and strings.
Olinda Pereira, 93 who took service to poor, the aged as her life’s mission, started School of Social Work. She has already received numerous awards and is a veteran in accepting the same.
