Puttur, Jan 15, 2015 : A Hindu outfit named Bharatiya Hindu Parishad formed under the leadership of Puttur Block Congress President Kavu Hemanath Shetty was launched at a function held at the Town Hall here on January 14, Wednesday in the presence of the seers of the Edneer Mutt of Kasargod and Kemar Sandeepani Ashram.
Speaking on the occasion, the Edneer Seer Sri Keshavavananda Bharathi Swamiji wished success for the new organisation and hoped it would be apolitical.
Sri Esha Vittaldas Swamiji of Kemar Sandeepani Ashram in his address stressed the need for religious education to Hindu children and urged the people to read Bhagavadgita.
The Founder of the BHP Kavu Hemanath Shetty who presided over the function, said his organisation aims at promoting religious harmony and brotherhood.
A Sri Vishnu Sahasranama Yaga was performed for the well being of the society as part of the inaugural.
Interestingly, the BHP has been launched even as there is lack of consensus among Congress leaders regarding its formation. However sources say that efforts are underway to form a similar outfits in other places at the directive of AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi to counter the Hindu outfits of the BJP and also to allay the misconception that the Congress was not fully in favour of Hindus.
Here it is also worth mentioning that KPCC Chief Dr G Parameshwar and former union minister B Janardhana Poojary had strongly opposed the formation of the Parishad. Even Puttur’s Congress MLA Shakuntala Shetty has not supported the organisation.
The new outfit has clarified that it was strongly against communal elements and is in favour of construction of Ram Temple at Ayodhya, but was against religious conversions.
Sources said as of now only those who are loyalists of Kavu Hemanath Shetty are part of the new organisation at present though Shetty has made it clear that the new organisation wants to steer clear of politics.
