New Delhi, Jul 31, 2020: Health Minster Dr Harsh Vardhan chaired a meeting of a Group of Ministers on the Covid-19 situation on Friday. He said that of the total number of active cases, only 0.28% are on ventilators, 1.61% on ICU support and 2.32% on oxygen support.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday appealed to all MLAs to contribute 30% of their salaries for three months towards CM Relief Fund. "I also appeal to the people to give their contribution to the fund," he said. Over six months after Covid-19 was declared a global emergency, the World Health Organization said today that young people could get infected and even succumb to the virus and urged them to take the same precautions to protect themselves as everyone else. On the issue of a vaccine, it said that for the first time, there could be a situation where people, regardless of where they live, get a Covid-19 vaccine at the same time."We need to change the way we’ve operated in the past," said WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. Meanwhile, the global coronavirus cases surpassed the 17 million-mark.

The GoM discussed the situation in Delhi, observing that the national capital had the best recovery rate in the country of over 89%. It said that the areas of concern were Pune, Thane, Bengaluru and Hyderabad.

Dr. Harsh Vardhan says, “India has achieved the milestone of more than 1 million recoveries, which has taken the recovery rate to 64.54%. This shows that the active cases under medical supervision are only 33.27% or approximately 1/3rd of total positive cases. India’s case fatality rate is also progressively reducing and currently stands at 2.18%, one of the lowest globally.”

"If all of you agree then we will contribute 30% of our salary towards CM Relief Fund, to fight Covid-19, until the pandemic doesn’t come under control - be it July, Aug, Sept or Oct," Chouhan said during a video conference with state’s ministers.

Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said on Friday that Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 64.54% while the doubling rate is 21 days.

In an alarming incident, Covid-19 positive patients were sent to a crematorium for isolation in a village in Telangana’s Narayankhed. The decision was taken by the village sarpanch and the residents. According to the DMHO, the crematorium was built recently. The sarpanch, initially, wanted to send them to a school, however, there was some construction work going on in the school, so the next empty space in the village was the crematorium.

Notably, sales rose by 14 per cent to USD 12.6 billion in the first six months of 2020 and were bolstered by strong trading in new medicines, as well as cancer and respiratory medication, news agency AP reported.
