Belthangady, Jan 23, 2020: Moorje Sunitha Prabhu of Belthangady has received the Pradhan Mantri Bal Puraskar from President Ram Nath Kovind at a ceremony held at Rashtrapathi Bhavan on January 22, Tuesday. She won the Award for the achievement in the field of scientific research. She has also got an opportunity to participate in the Republic Day Parade and meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Sunitha is the daughter of Belthangady based entrepreneur Vivekanand Prabhu and Shanthala Prabhu. An alumnus of Ujire SDM English Medium School (CBSEE) she is presently pursuing PUC at CFAL in Mangaluru.
She won the Award for representing India in the 80th Science and Technology Fest held at Phoenix in the US last year.
The mosquito repellent device invented by her was developed at the Pune IISER and NCL. She has also bagged the National Grand Award for her achievement.
A remote controlled rubber tapping machine is also the product of her research which has won commendation.
