Mangalore, May 28: The Kannada and Culture Department and the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy jointly organized a cultural event comprising comedy, drama, and folk songs at Town Hall on May 28, Saturday.

Speaking after inaugurating the event by beating the duff thrice, Coastal Development Authority Chairman B. Nagaraj Shetty said that organizing such events is essential for the preservation of culture. Lauding the Beary Academy, he said that it should have been formed a decade back so that it would have by now had a greater hold on the younger generation.

Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy President M. B. Abdul Rehman delivered the introductory address. Dr. D. K. Chowta, the writer, presided over the event.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA U. T. Khader said that the event Nage Habba, organized by the academy, is a great stress reliever.

A team comprising famous comic artistes such as Mysore Anand, Richard Lewis, M. S. Narasimhamurthi, and Asadulla Baig, accompanied by musicians such as Manju, Venkatesh, Babu, and Gopal, presented a show called Nage Habba.

Mithabail Yamunakka, a Kannada play based on Dr. D. K. Chowta’s Tulu novel, translated by Mohammed Kulai, and directed by Pramod Shiggaon, was performed by Ranga Niranthara Bangalore. Dr. Basavaraja Sooleripalya had transformed the novel into a play.

Umarabba, the registrar of the Beary Academy, welcomed the gathering.
