Mangaluru, Dec 06, 2014: Eleven-day long beach festival will be held at Panambur beach here from December 20. Speaking to mediapersons after releasing the logo of the beach festival, District-in-Charge Minister Ramanath Rai has said that the organisers are trying to get permission for holding a cruise service during the festival.

The cruise with dine if permitted will be an added attraction to the festivities. Food festival with the mouth watering dishes from Kerala, Gujarath, Uttara Kannada, Malnad along with coastal district will be another attraction.

Yathish Baikampady of Beach Utsav Committee said that along with the food festival, the cultural troupes of Kala Mandalam in Kerala and Gujarath will present traditional cultural programmes.

There will be beach volleyball, cricket, throwball, kabaddi, sand art, kite flying and other competitions to enthral the visitors. To promote the beach festival, a cap and T shirts have also been released. The T-shirts and caps will be prepared on demand through social networking sites.

The cost of the cap is Rs 50, T-shirt is Rs 200 and cotton T-shirt Rs 250.  Rai said that during the Karavali utsav exhibition, about 15 stalls have been earmarked for the government departments to showcase their strengths. A cultural procession will be held prior to the inauguration of Karavali Utsav.

Teams invited

In a separate press release, Karavali Utsav Procession Committee has invited applications from various folk teams to participate in the Karavali Utsav procession from Nehru Maidan to Karavali exhibition grounds on December 19 at 3 pm.

The procession will pass through Nehru Maidan-Hampankatte, Karnad Sadashiva Rao Road, Manjeshwara Govinda Pai Circle (Navabharath Circle), P V S Circle, M G Road.

Senior litterateurs, achievers, tableaux, ‘Daff,’ Gombe kunita, Yakshagana, Kolata, Mangalavadya, Tiger dance, and other troupes representing the culture of theland will take part.

Those who wish to take part in the procession should register their names with details like name of the organisation representing, name of the folk trouop, number of participants to Secretary, Karavali Utsav Procession Committee, Tahsildar office, Mangalore on or before December 13.
