Barakah International School kids mop up 205 Kgs of Dry Waste

Mangaluru, Sep 27, 2017   :  In a bid to inculcate the habit of keeping the environment clean, Barakah International School initiated a four day cleanliness campaign jointly with city based NGO, APD (Anti-Pollution Drive). About 200 students of the school formed eight groups of boys and girls and collected plastic waste scattered in and around the campus.

In a span of four days, the school had organized various competitions and activities for imbibing awareness about clean environment. The students were awarded prizes for the highest amount of plastic junk collected. As a result the students put up an impressive performance by collecting an aggregate of 205 kilos of dry waste.


The students also took part in a mini ‘Cleanliness Walkathon’ to spread the message about keeping the surroundings clean. 95 students and 11 teachers participated in the walkathon from the school to Sahyadri Engineering College and back covering a distance of two kilometres.


As a part of this initiative taken by Barakah School, Anti-Pollution Drive took up the responsibility of collecting the plastic waste mustered up by the students in their competition to help recycle the plastic.


Members of APD visited the school campus on 26th September 2017 to create awareness in the children about plastic waste management. Students of the school shared their experience about the cleanliness drive with the APD team. This was followed by a briefing on wet and dry waste segregation by the Swaccha Mangaluru Project Head of APD, Naveen D’Souza. The winners were awarded trophies in the plastic bottle collection competition organized by the school.


Prakash Kurup, Senior Manager and Project Head for Antony Waste Handling Cell Pvt. Ltd; Neha Shenoy, GM of APD Operations and Dhanush Desai, the programme associate were also present.
