Bantwal, Oct 16, 2017: Prakash Marathe, a priest of the Nandavara Shree Vinayaka Durgamba Shrine has rescued two persons who slipped into the river while they had arrived at the Kshetra for the Pinda Pradaana of their relative. The incident took place on Sunday.
A father and son from Kanyana, belonging to the Vishwa Karma community had arrived for Pinda Pradaana. It is said the father slipped when he entered the water to take a dip before the ritual. Though the son too plunged into the river to save the father, eventfully both of them were in danger. The priest who noticed them drowning rushed to the place and rescued them.
As the elderly man who was rescued had undergone a hernia surgery just a few days ago, he was rushed to the hospital to ensure his safety.
It is said Prakash Marathe was a godsend to the father and son as usually the chief priest Mahesh Bhat did the rituals. However as he was on Soothaka due to the demise of a relative, Prakash Marathe was the in-charge priest.
