Bantwal, Aug 28, 2015: A father of two children has been arrested by the police in connection with the recent incident wherein a girl was stalked and an attempt was made to outrage her modesty.
The arrested person is Santosh Louis Bernard (38) hailing from Badagabellur, Varakodi near Polali. Meanwhile, allegations are heard that a political party was trying to help the accused merely because he belonged to the minority community and that the party was also pressurising the police to book him under lenient sections so that he could get bail easily.
It is learnt that the accused had followed the girl who was returning home after work at Kaikamba. Though the girl had initially walked into a house enroute for fear of the man, later thinking he was away she again walked towards home, only to be stalked by him.. When the man reportedly made advances towards her, she cried for help and the man had fled fearing that he may be caught.
Later, the girl informed about the incident to her family members and the local police on coming to know about the incident visited the girl’s residence and got a written complaint from her.
In the meantime, some local citizens including Kishore Pallippady, Gururaj Bantwal, Shashikiran and others who spoke to the media alleged that the Congress leaders were backing the accused merely because he belonged to the minority community. They also questioned the silence of the state government regarding the Attavar incident.
