Bantwal, Mar 18, 2016: In a tragic incident two youngsters who had stepped into the Netravathi River at Kagekana in Jarkila of Bantwal on March 17, Thursday evening have met a watery grave. The mishap occurred when five friends who had come to witness the Sadikukku fair had decided to enjoy a swim in the Netravathi while on way home.

It is said of the five only Satish (22) and Jagadish (23) of Budoli had stepped into the water only to be pulled in by the strong currents as the others stood helplessly and screamed for help.

Though locals rushed to the spot and tried to rescue the duo, it was a futile exercise. The bodies were retrieved later in the night by the fire service personnel with the help of some local divers.

It is dangerous to swim across the rivers , face the unexpected tides and the risky whirlpools. We can escape so easily. A sad news .
