Bannaje Raja might have engineered Thursday’s shootout - Commissioner

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 27: Seemanth Kumar Singh, the police commissioner for Mangalore, said that the underworld might have a role to play in the shootout, which took place at Kadri Park. It may be recalled that certain unknown miscreants fired fake bullets at a Mangalore-based builder.

The police commissioner said that even the local people might have collaborated with underworld dons to teach the builder a lesson for not paying hafta.

A few unknown miscreants on motorbikes fired some fake bullets at a car in which Suresh Bhandary of Prithivi Builders was sitting with his wife and daughter, parked near Kadri Park. The men were wearing helmets and fled as soon as a bullet hit the lower part of the car’s rear door.

Later, Bhandary said that he received a call from Bannaje Raja, who said that he had engineered the attack. He told Bhandary that Bannanje Raja had called him a couple of years back demanding Rs. 2 crore, and when he told him that he did not have that much money, he cut down the amount to Rs. 1 crore. However, Bhandary refused to pay up. This incident took place just a month after the don was released from the Dubai Police.

Raja is wanted by the Bangalore Police, the Mangalore Police, and the Mumbai Police in relation to a large number of cases. The don is infamous for extorting crores of rupees from businessmen.
