Mangaluru, Dec 30, 2016: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel has directed banks in the district to complete the task of linking Aadhaar numbers of job card holders under MGNREG to the bank accounts of customers by December 31. He issued this instruction as only 55% progress has been made in this task so far.
The MP was presiding over the District Banking Development review meeting held at the ZP office on December 29, Thursday under the aegis of the District Banks Review Committee.
The MP said the task of linking around one lakh Aadhaar numbers of job card holders was still pending. This is likely to create problems in issuing payment to the workers of Employment Guarantee Scheme from January onwards.
The MP also informed that necessary procedures to initiate digital payments in 368 villages and 230 gram panchayats have commenced and added that a 200 member team has been formed to make a door-to-door visit and create awareness among the villagers.
Lead Bank Manager Raghava Yajamanya who also spoke said the credit-deposit ratio in the district which was 59% last year has this year stood at 57.44% thus unable to reach the target of 60%.
Syndicate Bank DGM NS Somayaji, in his address said under the Mudra scheme banks in the district have advanced a total of 9,208 loans to the tune of Rs 155.94 crores during the year 2016-17. A total of 3,43,198 accounts have been opened under Jan Dhan scheme and 3,43,198 accounts under Pension Scheme, he added.
NABARD Assistant General Manager S Ramesh, Gopinath, AGM of RBI Regional Office, Dr Ravi, ZP CEO and others addressed the meeting.
