BJP politicising air strikes to divert attention from Rafale

Mangaluru, March 17, 2019: Senior Congress leader V R Sudarshan accused the BJP of politicising the issue of airstrikes to divert public attention from the NDA government’s failure.

He was speaking after releasing a booklet on corruption in the Rafale deal, published by MLC Ivan D’Souza and Dakshina Kannada District Congress Committee on Saturday.

He said that the BJP is trying to tug at the emotions of the people by diverting their attention from the failure of the government in the five years of its tenure.

“The BJP has created an illusion in the minds of the people on development and tried to grab the attention of youth in the 2014 Lok Sabha elections. The Central government, however, has failed miserably now,” he stressed.

“The BJP had been using the issue of Ram Mandir for the last 27 years for political gain, but could not solve the row in spite of being in power for two terms. India is a country with diversity. All of us have respect for the Ramayana. Unfortunately, the BJP is engaged in dividing the people by raking up the issue unnecessarily,” said Sudarshan.

Speaking further, Sudarshan said, “The BJP had mocked the loan waiver scheme of the state government, saying the government had failed to bring in a national policy for the welfare of the farming community. The BJP has no moral right to speak on corruption as it has unnecessarily delayed the passing of the Lokpal Bill.”

Terming the Rafale deal a case of daylight robbery, he clarified, “We are not against the Rafale fight jet technology, but against the corruption involved in the deal.”

The former legislator said that in spite of having a majority in the Parliament, the NDA government had failed to table the 33% reservation bill for women in the Lok Sabha.

He also accused the NDA government of being biased against Karnataka, neglecting the state and also delaying the approval of projects.

Sudarshan urged the DCC office-bearers to distribute the booklet on corruption to all households in the district.

Along with the booklet, a handbill with 28 questions to the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi – on the Rafale deal, the suspension of CBI chief Alok Varma, the writing off of the loans to corporates, the merger of Vijaya Bank, demonetisation, employment and black money – was released on the occasion.

MLC Ivan D’Souza urged the BJP leaders to come for an open discussion on the Rafale deal and other failures of the BJP government.
