Ensuring that the DK police will do everything within their power to maintain peace on that day, he advised the media to check any information they receive with the police department before publishing or telecasting news. Stating that the police department is willing to disclose facts on any rumours flying around, he urged the public and media persons to contact 100 or 2220800.

He also urged leaders of Hindu and Muslim communities to respect the verdict of the Allahabad High Court, maintain peace, and resolve their differences of opinion through respectful dialogue.

Disclosing that liquor shops in Mangalore will remain closed from the evening of September 23 to the evening of September 25, he said that pre-planned events such as marriages and other functions can be held as planned. Since Section 144 has been clamped on the city, groups of more than five people cannot meet; the commissioner warned that strict action will be taken against errant groups. He also said that the department will send text messages to all mobile users urging them to maintain peace and exercise restraint in the district.

The commissioner also disclosed that 150 KSRP and DR officials, Home Guards, and police officers have been deployed to maintain law and order in the following days. A total of 100 police vehicles have been kept ready to deal with emergencies. The department might take the help of the western range police if required.

The DK police have also organized a route march of 30 police vehicles within city limits, Ullal, Bajpe, and Suratkal, he said.

DCP R. Ramesh was also present for the press conference.

Security arrangements in Udupi

Stating that the district administration held a district-level peace committee meeting on Wednesday, she said that political leaders, representatives of various organizations, and religious leaders have agreed to maintain peace in Udupi. The district has already witnessed 31 such peace committee meetings.

Ms. Hemalatha urged people to remember that the court’s verdict will not be the final say and advised them to maintain peace on the day of the verdict.
