Udupi, Mar 14, 2015 : As many as eight school children were injured after the autorickshaw in which they were travelling hit an express bus from the rear and overturned in front of the Udupi CMC office on March 13, Friday. The reckless driving of the bus driver is said to be the cause of the mishap.
Eyewitnesses said the Mangaluru-Udupi Durgamba bus which was over speeding, overtook the autorickshaw and suddenly veered to the left and halted at a bus stop taking the autorickshaw driver unaware. The driver lost control over his vehicle which hit the bus from behind and then overturned.
Eight students of Christian High School and St Mary’s School were in the autorickshaw. If six sustained minor injuries, two others namely Yuvaraj, a class I student and Sona, a class IV student sustained serious injuries and were hospitalised.
The bus driver and conductor however fled the scene of the accident fearing public outrage.
