Mangaluru, Mar 18, 2015: Speaking at the inaugural of ’national rural drinking water and sanitation awareness week’ as a part of nationwide campaign that began in the DK district on March 17, Zilla Panchayat Vice President Sathish Kumpala said in spite of spending crores of rupees on drinking water projects in the district, authorities have failed to mitigate drinking water shortfalls in the district.
He added, that inspite of district receiving heavy rainfall, the district faces acute shortage of water during summer. We have failed in effective utilisation of rain water. The depletion of the ground water table is clear, a permanent drinking water project should be the need of the hour. Instead of depending on borwells, new permanent water sources have to be tapped to provide clean water to the people of the district.
