Hand Hygiene action will be performed by the participants in a relay fashion, at the Mareena Sports Complex, with authorised officials from Guinness Book of World Records as witnesses.
A total of 4,000 participants would take part in the Hand Wash Relay, which is a new world record for having a large number of people washing their hands with sanitisers in the scientific six-step method in a continuous relay mode.
The first Global Hand washing Day was held in 2008, when over 120 million children in more than 70 countries washed their hands with soap.
Each participant has to perform the procedure and, on completion, pass the alcohol-based hand sanitiser to the next participant and exit the venue. The witnesses timed each performance with a stopwatch. The relay was videographed with the number plates of the staff visible.
The purpose of observing the Global Hand washing Day is to spread the message of hygiene and encourage everyone to make hand-washing a habit.
