Attempt on life of Udupi DC : Only 7 arrested so far though complaint mentions over 50 assailants

 Udupi, April 5, 2017 :  Though Udupi Deputy Commissioner Priyanka Mary Francis in her complaint to the police had   stated that  over 50 people made an attempt on her life and that of Assistant Commissioner Shilpa Nag, except the seven arrests  made  on Monday, there have been no other arrests on  Tuesday.

 Staff of the Deputy Commissioner’s office and Kundapur Assistant Commissioner’s Office staged a protest on Tuesday to condemn the attack. Works in the two offices had come to a standstill as employees had gone on leave enmasse.  It is said  illegal sand extraction activities at Halnad and Kandlur  where the DC led team had raided on Sunday night, have been suspended.

District Superintendent of Police K T Balakrishna has said efforts are underway to trace the remaining accused by gathering information about him on the basis of the registration number of the bikes seized.

Influential accused :  It is being said that there was pressure on the Department against the arrest of the accused as all of them are locals as well as influential. As far as the raid on Halnad  was concerned, all the accused arrested were workers from Uttar Pradesh.

DC attack case -  Minor among seven arrested  : Of the seven persons arrested in connection with the   attempt  on the life of the DC, one of the accused is a minor.

 The other accused Mohammad Nadeem (21 ) of Kandlur, Aftar (25), Abdul Sattar Khan (29) of Bhatkal, Subba (27) of   Barkur and Safan Muktafar (26) have been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody. Another accused Bhasker Mogaveera who has sustained  injuries in his fingers  is undergoing treatment at a hospital.
