Mangaluru, Dec 6, 2014 : An incident at Ulaibettu wherein some people reportedly attacked a bus carrying pilgrims heading towards Datta Peetha in Chikmagalur on December 5, Friday night, triggered communal tension in the area.
Soon after the incident, the pilgrims reportedly stoned a mosque at Vamanjoor further adding fuel to fire. Five vehicles including a car, two autorickshaws and two bikes were also damaged in the stoning while three persons sustained injuries.
The police who rushed to the spot brought the situation under control and have stepped up vigil in the area to prevent any untoward incident.
The injured have been admitted to SCS Hospital.
The VHP and the Bhajrangdal are planning a protest against the attack on pilgrims, on December 6, Saturday. There is also information that the Hindu organisations have given a Dakshina Kannada bundh call on December 8, Monday.
