Mangaluru, Aug 31, 2015: Three persons of a gang of six armed men who tried into barge into the residence of Chandrashekhar Uchil, President of the Ullal constituency unit of the BJP were arrested with the help of the locals.
The incident had occurred on the night of August 28, Friday.
Chandrashekhar stays with his nephew Rajesh Uchil, the President of Someshwar Gram Panchayat President who stays at the latter’s house.
It is said the gang had knocked at the doors of Rajesh Uchil on Friday night at around 11 pm. When Rajesh opened, the gang of armed men tried to abuse and attack him.
However, with great presence of mind, Rajesh managed to suddenly shut the door from inside. He later telephoned his friends as well as his neighbours who rushed to help them. However, the assailants had fled by two bikes by then.
One of the two bikes was later intercepted at Beeri with the help of locals. Fayan (22) was trapped while the other two Nazeer Manjanady and Rafique Manjanady were later arrested. Meanwhile, police are on the lookout for the three other accused namely Rameez, Ruksan and Taizar.
Though it is still not known as to whom the assailants intended to target, one suspicion is that the attack was planned to avert Chandrashekhar Uchil from appearing for a hearing in court on September 8 in connection with an attempt made on his life in 2004.
Further investigations are underway.
