The anonymous letter was short and stated that the bomb will go off at exactly 3:30 p.m., when the council meeting was scheduled to begin.

Although nobody was asked to leave the premises, those assembled for the meeting were in a state of panic.

The police and the bomb squads thoroughly searched the building and its surroundings for two hours; but they did not find any bombs.

The police said that they will trace the culprits who sent the letter as soon as possible.

The council meeting, which was scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m., began later that day. Mayor Praveen announced that the street vendors will be given two places near the service bus stand and that all street vendors will be evacuated from Lady Goshen area now that they have been given an alternative place to conduct their business.

In response to a query, the mayor said that the tempo stand near the service bus stand and the empty space behind the bus stand will be reserved for street vendors and that those who sell wares on the footpaths will be evacuated. But he did not mention exactly when this will be implemented.
