Annual Diocesan Eucharistic honour, declaration of ’2019 Year of Youth’ on Jan 6

Mangaluru, Jan 07, 2019: Mangalore Catholic diocese in it’s unique manner held the 52nd annual Eucharistic Procession and Inauguration of the ’Year of the Youth’ with a public procession, from Milagres church to Rosario Cathedral   on January 6, Sunday. Around six thousand Catholics, many youth, about 200 priets, large number of nuns participated in a devout manner praying and singing in honour of the Eucharistic Christ. Bishop Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha took the leading role and it was his first time as Bishop on this annual occasion; emeritus Bisop Rev Dr.Aloysius P D’Sauza, walked the entire route and participated.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The solemn occasion commenced with Eucharistic Celebration, Bishop Peter Paul Saldanha presided over held at Milagres Church in the afternoon. Thereafter the Eucharistic Procession to Rosario Cathedral was an orderly and prayerful affair in which thousands of faithful of Mangalore Diocese took part in admirable  devotion.

Rev Fr Leo Lasrado, Professor St Joseph’s Seminary preached the homily. He emphasized the role of youth in building the church walking on the footsteps of Jesus in the power of the Word of God. He stressed that it is not ’we’ who have brought the Sacrament here, but its the sacrament who has brought ’us’ .....seeking the word of the Lord through scriptures is vital. The youth specially in 2019 must awake and work deeply to renew the goodness in the world and in our localities among all people and bring a moral revival.

In his address Bishop rev Dr Peter Paul said, Jesus was a youth and He was close to His Father and also to humanity. Following in the footprints of Jesus there is success always. Youth are future of the Church, the world. Many times youth think they are intelligent but knowledge of Youth and wisdom and experience of the elders will make the mission of youth successful - both are needed. Youth is the stage of life when you need to come closer to God. It should be a time to move to know the Almighty. Yes, we are blessed with abundant things these days. But that should make us more grateful and upright seeking eternal life. The Bishop declared that we will pray for you and wish all the best in the diocesan youth year.Bishop requested all the parishes of Mangalore Diocese to Inaugurate the year of youth on next Sunday in a deeper manner.

After the solemn benediction and prayer, the Bishop honored the 5 parishes and 5 individuals, who contributed more to Mission Sunday Collections.  The 5 parishes in order are :   Bijey, Derebail, Cordel, Bondel, Bendur. The bishop congratulated all the parish priests and the faithful who contributed immensely towards the Mission Sunday collection.

Dedicating 2019 to youth in Mangalore diocese, the Bishop Rev Dr. Peter Paul Saldanha inaugurated the year of Youth by unveiling the logo along with Aloysius Paul D Souza Bishop Emeritus,  Msgr Maxim Noronha the Vicar General , Fr Ronald D Souza Director ICYM, Fr Rupesh Madtha  Director YCS/ YSM, and Youth leaders.  Over to the youth for 2019, hopefully a great year of life for all.
