Mangaluru, Feb 23, 2016 : A memorandum submitted to the government, Nirmala Nagara Nagarika Hitarakshana Vedike, Jeppu, has urged the Chief Minister to set apart Rs. 6.69 crore for the construction of a road overbridge at the Jeppu Mahakalipadpu railway level-crossing in the forthcoming budget.
Nirmala Nagara Nagarika Hitarakshanavedike president Mohammed Soofi said that the Railways has clearly stated that the project cannot be taken up on cost-sharing basis with the Mangaluru City Corporation. The corporation has to bear the entire cost of construction, the Railways has said, Soofi noted.
While the road passing through the level-crossing has been one of the busiest linking southern Mangaluru with National Highway 66 (towards Kerala), the response of the authorities concerned in eliminating the level-crossing has been lukewarm, he said. As a result, there are frequent traffic snarls on the road causing serious inconvenience to the residents, he said.
Residents of Jeppu Mahakalipadpu and Morgan’s Gate had staged several demonstrations in protest against the apathy of the administration to their woes, he pointed out. It is high time that the government allocated funds for the overbridge.
