Udupi, May 10, 2020: The Malpe Coastal Security Police launched an operation following allegation that a late night party was held at St Mary’s Island on May 9 by defying lockdown. Later it came to light that as many as seven people were at the island. Vadabandeshwara ward member Yogish Salian had lodged a complaint with the Coastal Security Police.
It has been gathered that meat, liquor bottles were found in the island. All those who were present in the island were brought back by the police. Those who were at the island had two cars and tourist boats which were spotted near the jetty. It has been reliably learnt that while one of the car belonged to someone from Malpe Beach Development another belonged to someone related to Nirmithi Kendra.
Locals who had noticed lights in the island on Saturday night had informed the Coastal Security Police who rushed to the place at 11 pm. But those in the island told the cops that they had come to take some things belonging to the Beach Development Committee and that they had to remain there due to high tide.
The Coastal Security Police are now investigating if a party was held in the island by violating lockdown rules. Coastal Security Police SP R Chethan has said that investigation is underway and action will be taken if rules were found violated.
However the Malpe Beach Development Committee has refuted the allegations.
It may be mentioned here the District Administration has banned public from visiting the island between 7 pm and 7 am and also from staying overnight in the island.
