President G. G. Mohandas Prabhu spoke on the need to construct an air cargo complex, stating that a study conducted on the matter showed that goods manufactured in Mangalore have great demand in Gulf countries. He urged the airport authorities to set up the complex within one month.

The rise in the volume of air traffic in recent years necessitate the construction of a cargo complex to facilitate the growth of the export sector, he said and informed that the concerned authorities will soon be informed and the formalities required for the construction of the complex will be completed as soon as possible.

M. R. Vasudeva, the director of Mangalore Airport, who was present at the meeting, said that the cargo complex can be easily operated since it will be treated as a separate entity from the airport; however custom formalities should be done in co-ordination with the regulating authority, cargo users, and airlines. Voicing his opinion that the cargo complex infrastructure can be made available within a short span of time, he also expressed his apprehension that, if the facility was not made available as soon as possible, Kannur Airport might grab the opportunity.

Officers from various airline companies who were present at the meeting agreed to offer reasonable rates for the project. Issues related to possible obstacles to the establishment of the cargo complex were also discussed.

Vice President Latha R. Kini and Secretaries B. Chandrakanth Rao and Mohammed Ameen were also present.
