Mangaluru, Aug 24, 2017: With the city all set to celebrate Ganesha Chaturthi on August 25, the police organised a peace meet on Wednesday to ensure peace and order during the celebrations.
Presiding over the meeting, Mangaluru Police Commissioner T R Suresh enlisted the various measures to be taken up by the organisers of Sarvajanika Ganeshotsava celebrations.
He said the venue of the idol installation must have fire safety facilities and proper electricity connections. All cultural programmes must end before 10 pm, the Commissioner said adding that the use of sound and fire crackers should be limited particularly near schools and hospitals.
The place where the idol will be immersed should have sufficient lighting arrangements apart from swimmers in the event of any problem.
The Commissioner also stated that the procession and tableaux should cause least inconvenience to the public and that the organisers should appoint volunteers to oversee the place during night hours.
The organisers can also contact MCC, MESCOM and fire service department for assistance during the celebrations and processions.
