Mangaluru, Oct 1, 2015: The Mangaluru City Corporation meeting held on September 30, Wednesday, though witnessed a pandemonium over the contentious Yettinahole project, finally passed a resolution opposing the project.
Interestingly, Mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred who disallowed corporators from debating the issue, instead asked them to briefly present their views on the project. Still ruling Congress and opposition BJP corporators chose to trade allegations over the issue.
Amid the commotion, Congress Councillor Abdul Lathif was loudly shouting that he was opposed to the project. BJP’s Roopa D Bangera who wanted to speak on the issue however was disrupted by Congress corporators. At one juncture, BJP corporators began to argue with the Mayor over the issue and sat on a protest in the well of the house.
When Roopa Bangera alleged that the Congress was not interested in opposing the project, Deputy Mayor Purushottam Chitrapura drew the attention of the House that it was he who had questioned the project in the Green tribunal.
Finally, the meeting passed a resolution against the project and the Mayor informed that the same would be intimated to the Government.
