Bantwal, April 20, 2016: After an LPG tanker tumbled near Soorikumeru in the wee hours of April 19, Tuesday resulting in gas leakage, angry residents of the locality blocked movement of as many as 25 gas tankers in the area after 6 pm.
As already reported residents of more than 50 houses had to be evacuated to avert any casualty after the gas leak. Even traffic was affected. It was gathered that the over speeding LPG tanker which was proceeding from MRPL to Bengaluru had resulted in the tragedy.
Meanwhile, when angry locals started protesting on Tuesday evening, Bantwal SI Nandakumar and his personnel rushed to the place and tried to persuade the locals to stop the protests. However the locals were unrelenting and argued that more tankers operated on the route during evening and night hours rather than during day time as against the rules.
The protestors withdrew their protest after the SI assured to prevent movement of tankers after 6 pm on Wednesday. The withheld tankers were allowed to move later.
