Mangaluru, June 28, 2016: The family members of RTI activist Vinayak Baliga and other activists on June 27, Monday thanked Police Commissioner M. Chandra Sekhar and his team of officers for the arrest of Naresh Shenoy and other persons allegedly involved in the murder of the RTI activist.
Anuradha Baliga and Swetha M. Pai, two of Vinayak Baliga’s three sisters, rationalist Narendra Nayak and other activists met Police Commissioner Chandra Sekhar at his office on June 27, Monday. The two sisters of Baliga Pai appreciated the efforts of the police to trace Naresh Shenoy and other persons allegedly involved in the murder. Narendra Nayak said that the police should make use of legal provisions that make it difficult for persons accused of the crime to evade arrest.
While lauding the police investigation of the murder, State president of Democratic Youth Federation of India Muneer Katipalla said that the police should arrest all those who were involved in the murder. He also asked the police to prepare the chargesheet in a way that it ensures the conviction of all those involved.
Police Commissioner Sekhar said that the team of officers involved in the investigation have worked with all the information they have received from people about this case. He added that the police had worked hard to ensure transparency in the case.
The Police Commissioner said they will be making use of all scientific tools available and ensure that a proper chargesheet was filed. The investigation has been an eye-opener for police on the use of certain criminal law provisions that are effective against persons involved in crime and also on those who protect the accused.
