Accidents: police may hold talks with oil company officials soon: SP Labhu Ram

labu Mangalore, April 26: The district police is likely to call a meeting between officials of the National Highway Authority of India and oil companies to discuss and find ways to curb accidents on the highway, Superintendent of Police Labhu Ram said.

Mr. Ram said that a meeting would be called within a week or 10 days to curb the number of accidents occurring on the Nellyadi-Gundya road. The number of accidents involving oil tankers was a cause for concern. “We will ask them (oil companies HPCL and BPCL) if they could organise an orientation programme for the drivers of tankers,” he said.

Among the other measures being considered he said the work would ensure that the shoulders were constructed at intervals and that the work was completed at the earliest. Last, the police would put up signboards indicating to drivers’ areas that were prone to accidents.

Mr. Ram’s predecessor A. Subramanyeshwar Rao had initiated a project to study accident-prone areas on NH 48 and come up with remedial steps. The project was near completion in January. Thehindu
