Mangaluru, Nov 27, 2017 : The death of 20 year old Prakash of Devinagar, Kunjathbail on October 19 night when his scooter fell over a heap of dug up mud on the roadside at Shantinagar on Kulur-Kavoor road, was raised at the SC ST Grievance redressal meet held at the Commissioner’s office on November 26, Sunday.
Dalit leader Anand SP who raised the issue said the place which was dug up for water pipeline work had no sign board cautioning motorists resulting in the mishap. He blamed the MCC officials as well as the contractor for the same and said the trench as well as the heaps of mud remain till at the spot even a month after the mishap. He demanded that the contractor concerned must be arrested and blacklisted. A memorandum tin this regard was submitted to DCP Uma Prashanth.
Responding to the complaint, the DCP said MCC would be instructed to ensure that sign boards are put up at places were works are underway.
Prakash’s mother Jyothi and brother Satish too were present at the meeting. Jyothi said her son who was studying B.Com at University College was returning after dance training at Suratkal when the mishap took place. He was working for a catering firm during holidays and was helping the family she said adding his brother’s education has now been affected.
The meeting also discussed various issues including driving without licenses, irregularities in massage centres etc.
