Mangalore, Aug 12, 2014:  In a combined operation, District Crime Intelligence Bureau with the Uppinangady police successfully arrested a murder accused who was absconding since 13 years i e 2001;  the accused is one Vishwanath Shetty,  belonging to  Kodimbadi in Puttur taluk.  He had murdered Shiva Finance owner Vishwanath Rai of Uppinangady in June 2001. The police closed in on him at Kadambur village in Erode district of Tamil Nadu.

 Superintendent of Police Sharanappa SD told media on August 11, Vishwanath Shetty was working as finance manager at Shiva Finance and a quarrel arose between Shetty and propeitor Rai.

 Vishwanath Shetty took the  extreme step of murder  and disposed Rai’s  body at Honnavar. He, then parked his car near Kadri Park and fled the spot. The accused was absconding since June 2001, it is said since then he was not in touch with his family members too. 

The accused created a new identity for himself after fleeing from Mangalore and worked as a vehicle driver at a hospital in Erode, initially. Later, he went on to work as a writer at the plantation belonging to a doctor of the same hospital. He then involved in chit fund business. He identified himselff as ’Raju’  in Erode. The SP said that based on reliable information, the district police had kept a watch on the activities of Shetty for the last 3 months and blew his cover.

Confirming his real identity, the district police in co-ordination with Erode police arrested Shetty. “The court had considered it as a long-pending case as the culprit was not traced for long time. This a warning to the criminals who abscond under the impression that they will not be traced,” the SP said.

 The operation was carried out under the guidance of the SP and was led by DCIB Police Inspector Savithr Thej and Uppinangady Rural Inspector Suresh Kumar.
