APMC concludes five-year term: Krishnaraj Hegde

Mangalore, August 5: President of Agriculture Produce Market Committee (APMC) Krishnaraj Hegde said that the committee has completed its five-year term and has several developments to its credit. He was interacting with reporters at a press meet held in his office in Baikampady on Aug 5, Thursday.

 

Speaking about the committee, he said that all its representatives are from the area of agriculture, except one who is from the department of trade. The government has made it mandatory for agriculturists and town people alike to provide justice for farmers, but the rules do no apply at all times to the entire region, he said.

He said that the APMC (Baikampady) has acquired 80 acres and 88 cents of land in the vicinity of Baikampady and has provided various facilities worth Rs. 25 crore for farmers and traders. The APMC has issued licenses to 233 traders and organizations such as Campco and DK Agricultural Cooperative Association own godowns and businesses in Baikampady, he said. He said that both wholesale and retail trades require licenses and added that the model market construction according to the mandates of the central government also requires APMC license. 

The APMC has never violates any government rules and regulations. It has launched the road concretization project for main and small roads for the benefit of traders at the cost of Rs. 12.10 crore. President of APMC Krishnaraj Hegde launched the developmental work by unveiling the plaque after receiving the government nod. The project gets 25 percent subsidy from NABARD, he said.

Savithri Menda, Ashok Kumar, Ashok Shetty, Vajra Kumar Alva, Ahmed Bawa, and Gangadhar Ullal were present during the press conference.
