Mangalore, May 6, 2012: The city based AJ Institute of Medical Sciences and AJ Institute of Dental Sciences celebrated their decennial year with a function attended by Chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda. City MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, Dr K S Sriprakash, vice-chancellor, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, B Janardhan Poojary, former union minister, deputy speaker Yogish Bhat, and former minister B Nagaraj Shetty were among the other dignitaries on the occasion which took place on Sunday, 6th May at the college auditorium on its campus at Kuntikana.

In address to the audience, the chief minister D. V. Sadananda Gowda felicitated the institutions on completing 10 years and observed that AJ Institutions were known for high quality education. He said the students of the institutes had a bright future before them as the alumni of the two colleges have found good acceptance and placements.

He announced that the state government has earmarked Rs 15,000 crore for the education sector in the budget and 11 universities were opened.

 “We have a skill development and science and technology taskforce in the state, and we are trying to increase the admissions for higher education in medicine,” he said.
 
The chief minister released the decennial souvenir titled ‘Decennia’ touching lives.
 
A J Shetty, president, Laxmi Memorial Education Trust, presided over the programme.

Prashanth Shetty, director, Prashanth Marla, Dr M Ramesh Pai, dean AJIMS, Bharath Shetty, and Prakash Shetty were present. Dr B Subhashchandra dean, AJIDS welcomed the gathering. The formal finction was followed by a variety entertainment by the students.

AJ Group is coming up with the region’s first state-of-the-art oncology unit with linear accelerator and Brachytherapy which is expected to be operational in September.
