ABVP protests against centralizing of diploma entrance procedure

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, May 30, 2012: The Akhila Bharathiya Vidhyarthi Parishad (ABVP) organized a protest near Karnataka Polytechnic demanding that entrance test must be held for diploma courses in all district centres from this academic year.

Criticizing the state government for centralizing the entrance procedure through Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) counseling, the protestors said that the state government has decided to counsel students who wanted to enroll for the 3-year diploma course from 2012 – 13.

Chinmay Rai, president of the city unit of the ABVP, said that entrance tests for diploma courses used to be held at district nodal centres and demanded that counselling must be held in district centres, not in Bangalore. He said that poor students will find it difficult to travel all the way to Bangalore.

He said that some students will be denied seats in polytechnic colleges because of inadequate income if the government centralizes the entrance procedure for diploma courses.
